Can you do stop action single frame back and forth on an iPhone? Thread on the iPhone 6 240 fps with golf side swing. Smartphones with fast wide angle lenses usually have very fast shutters in direct sunlight. You need a clear high speed object like a golf club. But I would not buy one without seeing the motion blur - ideally on a golf swing from the side.

I can't keep track of the motion blur of the HS video modes of the many cameras with auto exposure control.
#How to use kinovea for golf swing analysis manual
I don't know of any affordable camera with manual exposure control in high speed video mode. It is best to find Youtube golf swings from the side view and look at motion blur. Probably many cameras with high speed video mode will select fast shutter speeds in direct sunlight and with the widest angle zoom setting. Other Canon Powershot cameras that have high speed video mode would probably have similar motion blur performance to the 110 HS that I tested. Ĭanon Powershot 110 and 110 HS are two different camera models. They can be very useful but the frame rate means that when objects have high speed they move too far between frames. Some DSLR cameras with 60 fps video have manual exposure control, and shutters to 1/10,000 sec, etc. I've been searching around and maybe the new iPhone 6 240fps could be an option as well for me - I'm planning on dumping my Samsung anyway. The question of manual shutter control arises too - seems like very few have it - but those that don't still do the job fairly well.

The Sony Action cam videos on GolfWrx looked pretty clean for instance but too bad it's a fisheye. I suppose one doesn't need great quality, but was hoping for something cleaner. The Canon ELPH 110 looks like it can do the job at the higher frame rate, but the video is really poor quality. I haven't tried it yet - but maybe I should? I already have a lot of cameras, even high end ones, but the fastest video on any of them is 60fps - (Sony NEX5R). Hi and thanks Chas - I was thinking specifically for golf. Basic value-oriented camera to analyze tennis strokes and golf swings, etc. Check recording times and viewing stop action on the camera's screen.įor anyone who would like to try high speed video for very low cost and still have a fast enough shutter speed to see athletic body motions and a golf club with moderate motion blur I would recommend a Canon Powershot 110 HS camera. When I looked into some Nikon models a year or two ago, the J1 & V1 had very short recording times, such a 5 seconds.

Personally I'd prefer a larger camera so the buttons and parameters are more up front instead of buried in menus - but there are tiny Nikons that shoot 1200fps that looks interesting - and a ton of Fuji models 480fps.ĭo you have a particular application in mind? 240 fps with an adequately fast shutter is very good for golf. There is however no way to determine if these cameras allow for manual mode at high speed video from this site. Using the SnapSort site and looking at ALL camera types (not just compact) there seem to be many available at 480fps and above.
